Welcome to Our Homestead Journey!

Greetings Everyone I would like to thank you for coming to view our blog.  We would like to take you on a journey, our journey into the world of Homesteading.

Let me give you a bit of an introduction as to who I am. My name is Michelle I am 39 years old I have no children I have a little dog her name is Sasha she is a Chihuahua and she has the biggest personality.  I was raised on 2 acres of land with my 3 brothers in Perris California.  My mother loved  gardening and she taught me how.  We also had ducks, chickens, cats, dogs, turkey, a goose and a pig. I always enjoyed this type of living.

I remember my mom roasting a pig underground it was very weird as a child but as an adult looking back it was amazing! I currently work as a Custodian at a Prep school. I've been working as a custodian with the school district for 13 years.  Recently, I was told that I am one of the 80 employees that will be laid off on April 26th 2013.  I must admit I was shocked.  I cried and started to worry all in that order about the usual things like I just signed a year lease in my apartment, I have a car payment, bills not to mention I am the only one in my household that is employed.

I have been wanting to go off the grid for a long time but didn't know how to go about it. For several years I have been stalking Ebay watching land looking at locations of the land and saving the sellers that have great owner financed properties.  I've also researched other sources of living off the grid and realized that California isn't where we want to start our homestead, mainly because California is very expensive to live. We plan to build a small cabin use solar energy, grow our own vegetable garden, herb garden, raise goats, chickens, cow, sheep, honey bees and eventually have a few horses. We are looking to be self sustainable in every way possible. Our journey will begin April 26th 2013. I will be officially laid off work, we plan on taking all the money we have saved, down size and head to our property build a nice cozy cabin...

This blog will chronicle our journey starting with our first step, which is planning.

Thank you for joining us on our journey!
